Heat Pump Tune-Up in Buford & North Georgia

$49 seasonal heat pump tune-up in Buford and nearby cities. Cooling checks in spring, defrost and heat-strip checks in fall. Call (770) 265-8308.

New heat pump condenser set on its pad

A heat pump tune-up is a $49 seasonal check-up (while the promotion runs) where a technician cleans and tests your heat pump for the season ahead: cooling in spring, heating in fall, across Buford and the surrounding communities.

What makes a heat pump tune-up different from an AC or furnace tune-up?

An air conditioner gets tuned up before summer. A furnace gets tuned up before winter. A heat pump does both jobs: in summer it moves heat out of your house, and in winter it reverses and pulls heat from the outdoor air into it. So a heat pump has two seasons that matter, and two sets of parts that only get exercised in one of them.

Our $49 seasonal tune-up is one visit, one season, at the currently advertised scope. When you book, you're choosing which side of the system we're getting ready:

Spring tune-up: the cooling side

  • Clean the outdoor (condenser) coil, which a year of pollen and grass clippings has been choking.
  • Clear the condensate drain so the water your system pulls out of humid Georgia air has somewhere to go.
  • Test the capacitor (the starting jolt for the motors), inspect the contactor (the switch that powers the outdoor unit) and tighten electrical connections.
  • Evaluate refrigerant pressures and temperatures to confirm the charge is right.
  • Run the system in cooling and check performance at the vents.

Fall tune-up: the heating side

  • Test the defrost cycle, the sequence that melts frost off the outdoor coil on cold, damp mornings so the unit doesn't turn into a block of ice.
  • Confirm the reversing valve switches the system from cooling to heating.
  • Check the electric heat strips, the backup heaters in the air handler for the coldest nights, and make sure they come on when they should and stay off when they shouldn't.
  • Check heating performance and safety, plus electrical connections and operating amperage.
  • Verify the thermostat's heating and auxiliary-heat settings.

Either visit ends with a plain-language rundown: what's fine, what's wearing, and what it costs to fix. The $49 promotional tune-up follows the checklist for the season you book, and our office confirms the exact scope for the current campaign.

When should I schedule a heat pump tune-up?

The best time is a few weeks before your thermostat changes modes for the season. In North Georgia that means:

  • Spring, before the first stretch of real heat, when a weak capacitor or a half-clogged drain is still a planned repair instead of a no-cool call.
  • Fall, before the first cold snap, because a defrost control or heat strip that quit over the summer won't announce itself until the first freezing night.

A tune-up also earns its keep when you've just moved in and don't know the system's history, when the system ran nearly nonstop all summer and the heating side hasn't been checked, or when last winter's thermostat showed auxiliary heat more than you expected.

The $49 price is a seasonal promotion, available while the campaign runs; check our current specials or call the office.

What does a tune-up catch on a heat pump?

Most heat pump breakdowns start as something a technician can see with the panel off. On tune-up visits across Buford, Sugar Hill, Dacula, Flowery Branch and Cumming we regularly find:

  • A capacitor reading below its rating. It starts the fan today. On the first hot afternoon or the first hard freeze, it won't.
  • A defrost sensor or board that isn't doing its job. Found in October, it's a part swap. Found in January, it's an outdoor unit sealed in ice and a house heated by the strips.
  • A heat strip or sequencer that won't energize. You'd never know in summer. You'd find out on the coldest night of the year.
  • A reversing valve that's slow to shift. Stuck in one mode, or slow to switch, is a valve or solenoid problem worth catching early.
  • A fouled outdoor coil. The coil works in both seasons, so dirt costs you twice. Cleaning it is on every tune-up.
  • Refrigerant pressures that are off. Low charge points to a leak. We tell you what we found and what fixing it involves rather than topping off and hoping.

Find one of these on a tune-up and you decide, on your schedule, with the price in front of you. Southeast Family Plan members get 15% off qualifying repairs.

What a tune-up can't do

  • It can't promise a breakdown-free season. Nobody can. It makes problems more likely to be found early, and that's the honest pitch.
  • It isn't a diagnostic. A tune-up is for a heat pump that's working. If yours is blowing cold in heating mode, iced over or tripping the breaker, book heat pump repair instead. That visit starts with our $79 diagnostic, built for finding a fault; our Learning Center explains what the $79 diagnostic covers.
  • It won't cover both seasons. One tune-up is one side of the system; for the other, book again next season or join the Family Plan and get both.

How does a Southeast heat pump tune-up work?

  1. Book. Call, text or book online, and tell us which season you're getting ready for. Our office calls or texts to confirm the appointment; a request isn't final until we confirm it.
  2. Get ready. Clear a few feet around the outdoor unit, make sure the thermostat and air handler are reachable, and jot down anything that seemed off last season. Filters you can reach are yours to change; leave refrigerant, electrical and the heat strips to us.
  3. The visit. The technician works the seasonal checklist above, outdoors and in, and runs the system in the mode you're about to depend on.
  4. The rundown. If a part is failing, you see the reading and get a written price. If everything checks out, we say that too. A tune-up isn't a sales visit.
  5. Follow-through. If a problem is caused by our workmanship, Southeast will return and correct it at no charge.

We tune up all major heat pump brands. Daikin is the brand we install, and we're a Daikin Premier Dealer, but the name on your outdoor unit doesn't change the checklist. We don't service window units, geothermal systems, boilers, oil furnaces, mobile-home equipment or commercial units. Southeast is family owned and locally owned, founded in 2022, working from one office at 4582 Atwater Ct STE 8 in Buford under Georgia license CR110452, with 979 five-star Google reviews as of September 2026.

Is the $49 tune-up or the Family Plan the better fit for a heat pump?

For an air conditioner or a furnace, one tune-up covers the year's work. For a heat pump, it covers half. That's why we always mention the Southeast Family Plan to heat pump owners:

  • $49 tune-up: one visit, one season, the currently advertised scope, while the promotion is active. No ongoing benefits.
  • Southeast Family Plan: $149 a year for the first system and $109 for each additional system. Two visits a year, so both sides get checked. Standard 1-inch pleated filter changes, condensate drain and condenser-coil cleaning, 15% off qualifying repairs, priority scheduling and no after-hours charge for members. The plan transfers to the new homeowner if you sell. More than 1,000 North Georgia homeowners are members.

Start with the tune-up if you're not ready to commit; if you'd rather not think about the system again, tell the technician or the office. Our heat pump maintenance page and the seasonal tune-ups overview show how the pieces fit together.

If a tune-up turns up a heat pump that's truly at the end of its life, we'll say so, explain the options and offer a free replacement estimate. Financing through Service Finance includes payment examples from $99 a month for a complete system, with credit approval; see financing terms. The decision stays yours.

Book a $49 heat pump tune-up in Buford or North Georgia

Call or text (770) 265-8308 or Book Service online, and our office will call or text to confirm your appointment. We're open Monday through Friday 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday 9 AM to 1 PM. Tune-ups aren't emergencies, so the office schedules them around the drive from Buford and the season's workload; for edge markets like Winder or Dawsonville we'll be upfront about timing. If something's already wrong, start with diagnostics and inspection. Everything else starts at the heat pump overview.

Frequently asked questions

What does the $49 heat pump tune-up include? +
One seasonal visit on a working heat pump. In spring: condenser-coil and drain cleaning, electrical checks, refrigerant and temperature evaluation, and a cooling performance check. In fall: defrost cycle, reversing valve, heat strip, heating performance and electrical checks. Both end with a plain-language report. The $49 price is a seasonal promotion, and our office confirms the exact scope when you book.
Should I get my heat pump tuned up in spring or fall? +
Both, ideally, because a heat pump works in both seasons and some parts only run in one. The $49 tune-up covers one season per visit. If you want both sides handled every year, the Southeast Family Plan includes two visits.
Is a tune-up the same as a diagnostic? +
No. A tune-up is preventive maintenance on a system that's working. A diagnostic is how we find the cause of a problem on a system that isn't. Our standard diagnostic fee is $79; it is typically charged, and any waiver is a case-by-case customer-service decision and is not guaranteed.
What is included in the Family Plan? +
The Family Plan includes two visits per year, standard 1-inch filter changes, system inspection and cleaning, condenser-coil and drain-line service, 15% off qualifying repairs, priority service, and no after-hours charge for members.
Do you tune up all heat pump brands? +
We service all major HVAC brands, but we do not service window units, geothermal systems, boilers, oil furnaces, mobile-home equipment, or commercial units.
