Is it time to replace your AC? Southeast gives honest repair-vs-replace answers, Daikin R-32 options and a free estimate in Buford. Call (770) 265-8308.
AC replacement is removing a cooling system that's no longer worth repairing and installing a new, properly sized one in its place. Southeast replaces air conditioners across Buford and the surrounding communities with Daikin R-32 equipment and a free estimate.
What does AC replacement involve?
A central air conditioner is a matched pair: the outdoor condenser and the indoor evaporator coil that sits on your furnace or inside your air handler. Replacing the AC almost always means replacing both halves together, because a new outdoor unit bolted to an old, mismatched coil won't perform the way the manufacturer intended, and it may not be covered the way you expect.
Depending on your home, replacement can also touch the blower or air handler, the refrigerant lines, the electrical disconnect and breaker, the drain, the thermostat and any duct connections at the equipment. What it doesn't have to include is guesswork. Every Southeast replacement starts with a Manual J load calculation, the industry method for sizing the system to your home rather than copying the label on the old one.
This page is about deciding and choosing. For the step-by-step of install day, see AC installation.
How do you know it's time to replace your AC?
We don't use age alone, and we'd be suspicious of anyone who does. A well-installed, maintained system can earn a repair late in life. A newer system that was oversized, charged wrong or never serviced can be a replacement candidate early. Here's what we weigh, in order:
- The repair in front of you. What it costs, and whether it actually restores reliable cooling or just buys a season.
- Installation quality. Sizing, charge, ductwork, electrical. A bad install is a bad install regardless of the date on the sticker.
- Overall condition. What's worn, and what's likely to fail next.
- Warranty and parts. Whether the failed part is covered, and whether parts are still available for the system.
- Comfort. Humidity, uneven rooms, noise, and how long it takes to catch up on a hot afternoon.
- Sizing and ductwork. Whether the existing system was ever right for the house.
- Your plans. How long you'll keep the home and whether you'd rather pay for a repair now or spread a new system over monthly payments.
Signs that push toward replacement: a failed compressor, a refrigerant leak inside a coil, repeated repairs in back-to-back summers, or a system that never kept up even when it was new. If you're not sure, our $79 diagnostic and inspection is the honest first step, and our guide to repairing or replacing your HVAC system explains how the answer shifts with the evidence.
What are your options for a new air conditioner?
Daikin is our primary brand, and Southeast is a Daikin Premier Dealer. We offer three central-system tiers, and we'll tell you which one fits, not just which one costs the most.
Single-stage
Straightforward on-and-off cooling. It runs at full capacity until the thermostat is satisfied, then stops. It's the right choice for a homeowner who needs a reliable replacement and accepts basic staging. Southeast labor warranty: one year. Qualifying Daikin single-stage equipment carries 12-year parts and six-year unit replacement coverage, subject to Daikin's terms.
Two-stage
Two operating levels. The system runs on the lower stage most of the time, which means longer, gentler cycles and more operating flexibility than single-stage, and steps up on the hottest days. It's the middle ground between price and comfort features. Southeast labor warranty: three years.
Daikin Fit variable-speed
An inverter system that adjusts its output continuously to match what the house needs at that moment. It's the pick for homeowners who prioritize comfort, humidity control, quiet operation and the strongest warranty package. Southeast labor warranty: five years. Qualifying Fit equipment carries 12-year parts and up to 12-year unit replacement coverage, subject to Daikin's terms. It isn't automatically right for every home; ductwork, controls and load matter, and we'll say so if another tier makes more sense. See Daikin Fit for details.
All new Daikin systems we install use R-32 refrigerant. We'll explain the refrigerant choice during your proposal; ask any installer about serviceability, parts and the safety requirements of the refrigerant they use. Rooms without ductwork are usually a better fit for a ductless mini-split, which is a separate conversation from central replacement.

What does AC replacement cost?
It depends on the home, the size the Manual J calls for, installation conditions, the tier and staging you choose, duct and electrical needs, and the warranty package. Every home is different, which is why we don't publish cash prices and why the in-home estimate is free. What we can say:
- AC replacement payment examples start at $69 a month, and a complete heating and cooling system from $99 a month, with credit approval; see financing terms.
- Service Finance programs: 18 months at 0% interest, 12 months with no payments and no interest, or 180 months at 9.99%, with credit approval. Full details on our financing page.
- Up to $1,000 off a new system. Some restrictions may apply; see current promotions.
- Included in the quote: removal and disposal of the old equipment and any required permit.
Our pricing is competitive and fair. We won't promise to be the lowest bid, and we'd rather show you the sizing, warranty and commissioning behind our number than compete on a number alone. Our article on what a new HVAC system costs breaks down the variables.
After the install, the Southeast Family Plan keeps your new system maintained for $149 a year, with two visits, filters, coil and drain cleaning and 15% off qualifying repairs.
